Aaron Thompson

for Sixth District Court Judge

Judge Aaron N. Thompson has entered this race for one really simple reason:  Idaho’s Judicial Sixth District CAN DO BETTER.

Experience does indeed matter. Judge Thompson has been part of the Sixth Judicial District’s legal community for 26 years. He has extensive experience in both the civil and criminal practices.  He tried civil and criminal cases in Caribou County and Oneida Counties.  He litigated numerous cases to jury throughout the Sixth District including Bannock County, Bear Lake County, Power County and Franklin Counties, and also took appeals, with success, to the Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals, the Idaho Supreme Court, and the Idaho Court of Appeals.  He was also licensed to practice in the Shoshone Bannock Tribal Courts.

Judge Thompson never shied away from difficult cases – even if the representation was potentially unpopular – asserting the firm belief that every Idaho citizen is entitled to a fair, reasonable, and zealous defense.  In Idaho, the Constitution matters.

He was appointed in 2018 as magistrate judge amongst a competitive and qualified field by a diversified committee of local mayors, commissioners, attorneys, judges and local citizens.  Since that time, Judge Thompson has had 8 years of judicial experience, working hard every single day to improve the judiciary in the Sixth District.

A District Court Judge has an opportunity to preside over a treatment court.  Even as a Magistrate Judge, Judge Thompson has presided over Bannock County’s Mental Health Court.  This Court, and its team, provided treatment to Sixth District participants, helping to rehabilitate them, make them active members of our communities, better parents, and taxpayers.  Additionally, these treatment teams lessen our tax burden by helping citizens stay out of the legal system.

Judge Thompson’s experience in this regard is already superior to the alternative.  WE CAN DO BETTER.

Leadership does indeed matter.  Judge Thompson has held many leadership positions.  He was the President of the Sixth District Bar Association from 2017-2018.  He was the Chair of the Portneuf Inn of Court from 2015-2017 (this organization promotes collegiality between the Bar Association and the Judiciary).

In 2023, he was appointed as Chairperson of the Idaho Supreme Court’s Commission regarding Guardianship and Conservatorships, working with local leaders to craft forms for litigants and rules which make the judiciary more accessible.

Promptness and Preparedness do indeed matter.  Judge Thompson attends each and every hearing he is assigned to, runs an efficient courtroom, and is respectful of participants’ time.  Through adequate preparation, and experience gained over the years, Judge Thompson assures that no litigant will have to wait any longer than necessary.  He recognizes that people have to take time off of work, find daycare, and transportation, to come to court.  Citizens, attorneys, court staff all deserve a judge that acknowledges and understands this sacrifice and makes a personal pledge the Sixth District will have a Judge that will be always prompt and prepared.

THE SIXTH DISTRICT JUDICIARY, AND THE CITIZENS OF SOUTHEAST IDAHO, DESERVE BETTER.

VOTE JUDGE AARON N. THOMPSON ON MAY 19, 2026!!!!
